Unless you actually wanted it to rain on your wedding day (some people are more unique than others), a guide to having a wedding on a rainy day is necessarily a guide to the backup plan you should have in case it rains on your wedding day.
So if you have seen a high chance of rain in the weather forecast for your wedding day, or you just like to be prepared, this article is for you.

Check the Weather Ahead of Time to Be As Sure As Possible
If there’s a chance that you’ll be scheduling your wedding on a rainy day, you’ll want to know that ahead of time.
And if you see that there’s a high chance of rain, that doesn’t necessarily mean you need to cancel the whole thing and reschedule.
Sometimes, rain only lasts for a few minutes, and sometimes the forecast is wrong.
Sometimes nature just does unexpected things.
But it’s still nice to know what the odds probably are up front.

Provide Umbrellas
Umbrellas are a necessity for a wedding on a rainy day.
Bonus points for clear/transparent umbrellas because they look so lovely in photos.
Not only do they protect you from the rain, they also can be very stylish fashion accessories or complements to everyone’s outfits and the overall design aesthetic of your wedding.
If you don’t believe that, then take a look at this photo below and then try to convince yourself that you don’t want a photo like that, too.

Waterproof Makeup Is a Thing
Whenever and wherever you can avoid wearing makeup, you should probably do so because it’s almost always bad for your skin and health.
However, we understand that most brides are going to want to wear some on their wedding day.
And if the weather forecast predicts a high chance of rain on that day, you might want that makeup to be waterproof.
After all, when you’re sharing and talking about your wedding photos over brunch the next day, you don’t want to see your makeup smudging and running in them.

Alternatively, you can go entirely without makeup and let your natural beauty shine while also not needing to worry about whether or not your face will get washed off in the middle of the day by rain.
That’s what almost everyone did in past eras, and it worked well enough for them.
Whatever kind of skin you have, it’s beautiful, and you’re right to rock it.

Talk With Your Photographer Ahead of Time
A wedding on a rainy day creates a lot of great wedding photo opportunities you might not have thought of.
A skilled photographer will be able to take advantage of a rain shower to get you some memorable shots that most people won’t have in their own wedding albums.
And it’s not only the obvious shots you’d think of doing in the rain.
There are so many different ways you can get creative with rain photography.

Have An Extra Set of Clothes Too, Just to Be Safe
Your extra set of clothes doesn’t have to be anything too fancy.
It will just make you feel better to have an extra set on hand in case the rain comes more suddenly and more forcefully than you were prepared for.
Sometimes, rain picks up gradually and gives you signs, but there are also other times when the sky just chooses a moment to randomly dump buckets on you unexpectedly.
Well, maybe a meteorologist would be able to see signs and predict such things, but we’re not meteorologists, and you probably aren’t either.

Make a Plan to Cover Any Spaces You Have
This applies primarily to outdoor spaces, of course.
You can either set such spaces up with covers from the start or have a plan in place to cover them quickly at the sign of rain.
This is easy enough to do with tents, pergolas, awnings, and other coverings.
If you choose to work with a wedding planner, you can usually rest assured that they’ll be able to work out a plan for it.
Any wedding planner who’s been working for more than a month or two has encountered rain at least once.

Be Ready to Move Everything Indoors If Needed
Even with covered spaces, umbrellas, and extra shoes, the rain will sometimes just be too much.
At those times, you’ll need to just move yourself and all your guests inside.
It probably won’t come to that, but like everything else on this list, having a plan for it will make you feel better even if you don’t ultimately need to use that plan.

Prepare, But Don’t Worry
Planning a wedding on a rainy day can sometimes be a bit of a challenge, but it’s not an insurmountable one.
And it mostly just comes down to preparation and having a backup plan.
Even if you get some rain on your wedding day, there are things you can do to make the best of it and enjoy the day regardless.
In fact, not only can you make the best of it, but it actually creates opportunities that you might not have considered yet.
I mean, just look at the photos we included in this article.
Wouldn’t it be cool to have one like that yourself to go along with all the funny memories you’ll look back on decades from now of how the best day of your life didn’t all go exactly as planned?
What great romance have you ever heard of where everything went exactly according to plan? 🙂
